You may know that the spirochete, Borrelia burgdorferi, is a common host of the deadly Lyme infection, but this specific specimen is predominantly found in the United States of America. The genus Borrelia is a member of the Spirochetaceae family which contain three genospecies which include the Borrelia burgdorferi indigenous to the United States, but Borrelia affzeli and Borrelia garinii in which are indigenous to Europe. All of these species can host the Lyme infection which shows that the disease an be found in different parts of the world.
